How does the Coweta Water and Newnan Utilities

leak adjustment policies work?

Fixing leaks in a timely manner is essential, as producing and delivering clean water to homes and businesses is expensive. The Coweta County Water & Sewerage Authority and Newnan Utilities care about water conservation, and they have both created leak adjustment programs to incentivize their customers to help.

It’s important to understand that Coweta Water and Newnan Utilities can grant leak adjustment at their sole discretion. These water Authorities are only responsible for providing water to each meter. However, beyond the water meter, the customer is responsible for maintaining all water lines, irrigation systems, and other plumbing systems on their property. This includes the cost of water lost due to leaks or breakage on water lines maintained by the customer.

If you have a leak, you may be eligible for a leak adjustment, but there are some rules you need to follow:
  1. You need to fix the leak within 10 days of being notified by the Authority or discovering it yourself.
  2. The Authority will check to make sure the leak has been fixed.
  3. You need to request a leak adjustment within 30 days of being notified or discovering the leak.
  4. You won’t get a leak adjustment if you wasted water for something other than a leak, like filling a pool or overusing your sprinklers.
  5. You need to fill out a form and provide proof that the leak has been fixed. (Fill out the web form and provide a copy of the paid invoice from a plumber)
  6. You can only get a leak adjustment once every 12 months.
  7. Your account with the Authority needs to be up-to-date and paid in full.
  8. The adjustment will only apply to 2 bills affected by the leak, and it needs to include the date of the repair.
  9. If you don’t have enough billing history, the adjustment will be based on an average of 7000 gallons per month.
